Sometimes a brand’s purpose becomes clear through personal experiences.
A few months ago, my daughter Saachi started developing what looked like a skin allergy. For about two weeks, we noticed unusual marks and irritation on her skin. Concerned, we consulted skin specialist Dr. Abhinav Chokdi at his clinic in Nanpura, Surat.
After examining her skin, the doctor diagnosed her with Lichen Planus Pigmentosus (LPP). He reassured us that the condition can improve with proper care, though it may take time. He prescribed a skin lotion and medication, but he emphasized one important thing:
Saachi should wear only loose cotton clothing, preferably natural fabrics, and avoid synthetic garments.
Because she needed to wear a school uniform daily, the doctor also wrote a handwritten medical note requesting that she be allowed to wear cotton garments for her skin condition.
We approached the school and explained the situation. I personally met the principal and shared Saachi’s condition. During the discussion, I also explained the philosophy behind our brand **Vasudhaa Vastrram — how our fabrics are not only natural but also dyed using traditional plant-based colors.
I explained that our garments use natural dye ingredients such as:
• Turmeric
• Catechu
• Harde (Haritaki)
• Lac
• Indigo
• Iron
These ingredients are traditionally known to be gentler on the skin compared to synthetic dyes.
After understanding this, the school kindly granted special permission for Saachi to wear organic cotton clothing instead of the regular uniform.
From that moment, I started stitching organic cotton garments specially for her. The clothes were loose, breathable, and dyed with natural ingredients.
Over time, we noticed something encouraging — her skin began improving faster than we expected. During follow-up visits, even the doctor was pleasantly surprised to see the progress. The time he initially estimated for relief seemed to shorten.
For us as parents, this experience reinforced a simple but powerful belief:
What we wear touches our skin all day, and natural fabrics can truly make a difference.
Saachi’s journey became one of the inspirations behind our continued commitment at Vasudhaa Vastrram — to create clothing that is not only sustainable for the planet but also gentle and supportive for the human body.
